The StockMKT

The one new word/s that we think is too overused today is 'pop-up'. Maybe it's because when you are celebrating your 25th Anniversary like we are at DWS this year, then you've seen a lot of johnny-come-latelys come and go before you can say 'what's happening'!   BUT once in a while we love to discover new treasures that make life in our wonderful city that much more fun.  And The StockMKT is one.  A pop-up night market that is happening TONIGHT in Bermondsey Square, London SE1 from 5 30 pm....

Its inspired by the night markets of the Far East, with their plethora of delicious cheap eats and opportunities to shop for unique finds long into the night, The StockMKT takes this buzz and atmosphere and gives it a distinctly London feel. Tailored to each location where it appears, The StockMKT is a welcoming night market with no pretensions that demonstrates.

.
They aim are to provide a fun and innovative evening experience, where quality and service are paramount; to champion a green ethos; and to become part of the local community.

  • More delicious street food, from some of London’s finest street food vendors. You may say “But of course, we expect that!” however, we will be debuting some new delicacies such as: ‘proper posh kebabs’ and Japanese Pom Poms.
  • Cocktails with a London twist (not just more mojitos!) and, in line with our Far East inspiration, ‘Bubble Tea’.
  • Live music from the fabulous Albert Ball’s Flying Aces – sure to put a swing into everyone’s step!
  • Loads more stalls, with new food products, crafts, vintage clothes and art from the likes of local Underdog Gallery, Bike Parka and X-Ray Fog – supporting all that is sustainable, recycled, upcycled and local where possible.
  • Tunes from our super-DJ friends from Culture Cuts Collective, who since their StockMKT debut have worked with everybody from Kid Koala to DJ Krush. Expect anything from Mongolian throat singing to northern soulskiffle to Brazilian Jabba Jubba (okay we made the last one up, but you get the idea…)
  • very special outdoor light installation, created by local Boutcher Primary School pupils in collaboration with world-renowned guerrilla artistsLight Collective.

INKBLOT NAIL ART

Our thanks to the Stylist Blog at thehuffingtonpost.com
for taking us back to school for this hot tip:-

'When I was in high school, I remember sitting in psychology class as my teacher displayed images of The Rorschach test on the overhead projector. The weirdly-shaped inkblots were part of a personality evaluation created by Swiss psychologist Hermann Rorschach. If these eye-crossing pictures provided any insight into my emotional state at the time, I'd be worried about the prognosis. But I've recently taken interest again thanks to this inkblot DIY nail art by Los Angeles-based blogger Maegan Tintari'.

Follow these steps to get this manicure:
1. Take 10 one-inch pieces of painter's tape and fold them in half. Cut a small and different design into each folded edge. Maegan's insider tip: be careful making your designs too wide as it could go "cow" easily.
2. Polish nails with a base coat and then paint on Sephora by OPI A-Ha! Moment (an opaque white).
3. Once dry, apply the tape design onto each nail and add OPI Siberian Nights (a deep purple) to the top.
4. Allow at least two minutes for the color to set before removing tape. To add more depth, dot on nail polish around the sides to mimic the flow of an inkblot.
5. Apply a quick-drying top coat like Essie Good to Go
top coat to set the look.

IF LOOKS COULD KILL

It's no secret that DWS's own MD is a serious cinephile and so he'll be soon winging his way to NY for one of his favourite events at the MUSEUM OF THE MOVING IMAGE. For the 3rd time London's own 'Fashion In Film Festival' has collaborated with the Museum for a programme of movies they have entitled If Looks Could Kill.

From stolen pearls to a glove left at the scene of the crime, from an excess of red lipstick to the postmodern gangster silhouette, If Looks Could Kill explores the compelling links between cinema, television, fashion, crime, and violence. Tackling themes such as disguise, desire, and the corruption of beauty, the festival features a string of underworld characters and their prosecutors whose highly effective costume, styling, and sartorial gestures helped define cinematic genres from detective to thriller, gangster, film noir, and horror.

Runs from May 4th to May 13th BOOK your tickets now.

12 Ways To Achieve The Very Best Glamour Shot

We at DWS are very concerned about the lack of care taken when people pose for a profile shot to put on their Facebook page and use on other Social Media.  We think it is way past time that we dressed up for the occasion and looked our very best.  So we are more than to pass on the invaluable tips we picked up from Whitney Jefferson on www.buzzfeed.com one of our favourite Blogs.  Thanks Whitney.
